So far in 2008 we have paid-it-forward by being involved in these activities...

Iraqi Children Backpack Project - Incredible! That is the best word to describe the outpouring of love with all the school supplies that were donated to fill the 1,452 backpacks. Not only did we easily fill the backpacks with pencils, paper, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners and candy, but we collected a huge excess supply. With a grant provided by Wal-Mart and the additional supplies, we will be sending school supplies to local schools, mission locations where there are schools, and local shelters. An added surprise was someone called Fox 10 TV station and told them about our project. A very nice piece featuring our efforts was aired. Thank you to everyone who made purchases, who worked during the collection and assembly, and who prayed for good weather for this project. It was truly an incredible experience. All the children may not be able to thank us, but they will be grateful.

Dollar Car Wash - 40 cars were washed and 40 drivers were completely surprised when we GAVE them a dollar instead of charging a dollar. Their comments and reactions were priceless. It was a good morning to show how to pay-it-forward - Click here to view video

Interfaith Adult Day Care Center Painting Project - After over 50 hours of prep and painting, this place looks fresh! Originally they asked to have their large meeting room painted, but after the site visit the project leader offered to do all the rooms. They provided the supplies and our crew supplied the expert painting job. The staff at this center in Sun City West loves the new look.

Sweater Give Away - With a generous donation given, approximately 100 cardigan sweaters were distributed to several elder homes. This was done by individuals and iGroups and was well received by the female recipients of the homes.

Feed Them! Food Drive - It was amazing! Parkway people donated 7560 lbs. of food for Valley View Community Food Bank and One Step Closer. We beat last year’s totals by almost double! Our 4th and 5th grade weekend classes gave a “Mountain of Mac” by having their own collection of 140 boxes of mac & cheese to donate and they assisted in the sorting. The residents of One Step Closer were very grateful and the folks at Valley View Community Food Bank were elated with all the donations. God instructs us to share and we followed his command. “Don’t look out only for your own interests but for the interests of others.” Phil. 2:4 Way to go Parkway!

Pre-Pride Day in Surprise - 75 Parkway people spent a Saturday morning preparing 17 homes chosen by the City of Surprise for facelifts. We power washed the homes, removed debris, and trimmed trees and shrubs. The following weekend other organizations did the final work on the homes. This is the 6th year Parkway has done Pre-Pride Day. Adults, teens and tweens all took part in this special project.

Super Bowl Snacks for One Step Closer - To show the folks at One Step Closer that we were thinking of them, we made a surprise delivery on Super Bowl Sunday of 3 cases of water, 32 liters of soda, 10 pkgs. of juice boxes, 34 12 packs of soda, 1 case of Gatorade, 1 jar of pickles, 5 cans of peanuts, 2 pkgs. of pistachios, 8 bags of cookies, 26 boxes of crackers, 20 jars of dips & salsas, & 135 bags of chips & pretzels. This donations were given by Parkway’s iGroups. The residents were overwhelmed and grateful.
