Parkway Christian Church is a dream that God planted in my heart as I started college at Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, Kansas. I had no intentions of becoming a pastor, although, as I look back I have had a lot of people tell me that I should be, “one of those preacher guys.” My ambition was to go to Kansas State University and pursue a degree in Sports Medicine and take a few Bible classes across the street at MCC. As I signed up at MCC for classes, I met a beautiful young woman. She was a pastor’s daughter and as I developed a friendship and a deep love for her, she helped me sort out what I was so confused about. She helped me make sense of what God wanted me to do with my life. After four years at MCC, marrying Kelli, attending Hope International University in Fullerton, CA, receiving my Master’s degree in Church Leadership and Biblical Theology, the Parkway story began.
The vision for Parkway Christian Church was cast on a hot night in June of 1997 with a group of 20 people, all strangers to one another. What was originally named Parkway Community Church, had its inaugural service on Saturday night, October 4th, 1997 in Kingswood Elementary School. For the first year and a half, we continued meeting on Saturday nights for services. Around Easter of 1999, we had an opportunity to move to Dysart High School to have worship on Sunday mornings. The auditorium seated nearly 700 and we had 120 people coming to our church, including kids, but we jumped at the opportunity! We grew in numbers due to the move to Sunday mornings. In 2003, we moved into the Surprise Recreation Center at Countryside Elementary School and our church attendance began its approach to 1000! In 2004 and 2005 Parkway purchased, broke ground, and moved onto our 43-acre campus planned for life change. Currently, approximately 2000 people call Parkway Christian Church their home.
I believe we should love people one at a time. I believe the Bible is simple and should be kept that way! I believe that Parkway Church must grow as long as there are people out there who do not believe Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Savior!
